When building the deck, I thought of the potential matchups that I may face such as Prism (Bermuda Triangle) as well as some unexpected matchups like Maelstrom. In all, my winning strategy revolves around consistency by riding to Grade 3 while maintaining the pressure.

Among all the matchups that I had, the toughest matchup was against Chaos Breaker Dragon in round 1. Another tough matchup was Maelstrom which I am glad that I have built my deck with 20k heal triggers to counter Maelstrom.

I would like to give a shout out to my local card shop where I got all my cards from, Rowell Home Entertainment in Singapore.

When building this deck, I wanted something that is flexible and in my opinion, Luard fits this category best. If I needed extra draws, I could just call Abyssal Owl, if I need to be on the offense, then Apocalypse Bat and Lluails. Overall, the deck feels a lot like a Premium deck where you can do whatever you want.

I faced mostly Bermuda Triangle and Angel Feather Decks during the matchup. Some of the opponent are my friends as well. In all, everyone played very well.

I would like to shout out to the two teams back in Paris, team Ghost and team Le Conseil. They both helped me with my playtest. Without them, I probably would not be able to make it thus far. Also, my brother Théo, for getting me into Vanguard, and helping me to improve every fight.

When it comes to Deck-building, I would simply ask my teammates for assistance with deck/clans that I am not familiar with. Other times I home brew my own stuff, focusing on maximizing consistency at doing the same thing every game. Just like my hero Noman taught me.

My opponents were great! Many games were back and forth, especially with the gear chronicle player that I faced in Swiss and during my top cut games against my teammates.

I wanna shout out Team WCC, Toby Jones, and my hometown cardshop Cardfighter’s Underground. Thank you!

The main strategy of the deck is to compete for the first stride while setting up the soul for a finishing combo!

After the first stride into Darklord Princess, depending on the counterblast, my opponent should be in a kill range for the deck’s main finisher, Dust which prevents G-Guardians and allows for a Nightmare Doll, Alice combo to finish the game even if they hit damage triggers. I think the biggest obstacles that I had to deal with were Aqua Force and Narukami who both have explosive grade 3 turns with the right set-up while my Vanguard is still only a Grade 2.

If they launches the attack well and I do not have the means to defend myself via heal guardians and defensive triggers, the advantage they can gain from that turn would literally just snowball which would result in me trying to play a catch-up the whole game, something a combo deck like Nightmare Doll does not want to do.

I would first playtest using a generic build against my friends in both local and remotes, especially with meta decks or decks that directly counters mine. After each game, I would try to tweak and adjust my playstyle to improve my matchups. After a week of testing, I would go back to the deckbuilding process to see what was working and what wasn’t. This is a very slow process but very efficient at the same time.

While cardfighting, I would do my best to remain calm and patient so that I can concentrate better to manage my resources better. The win condition of the deck is to hit ritual 10 with Dragprincipal Morfessa. Hitting Ritual 10 honestly is not that hard. The hard part is doing it while keeping a healthy hand size to face your opponent on their next stride turn.

There were many unique deck builds and play styles which is something that I find amazing as it is something that I have not seen since Worlds. I also enjoyed chatting with my opponent as well!

I would like to shout out to my best friend Alex who got me into Cardfight!! Vanguard!, my locals Cardfighters Underground, and all my testing buddies!

The deck has several strong points: the ability to fight for First Stride, being fairly consistent in getting its pieces, a good finisher combo to close out games, and a decent defensive toolbox to help survive against the more aggressive decks.

Everyone was very nice and played very well. I had a lot of memorable games with my opponents during the day, especially in the games from Top 8 to Final.

Shoutout to my teammates at WCC, who all worked together to optimize the deck list we settled on. Also shoutout to all the staff, judges, and casters who worked together to make BRO2021 a great experience for everyone.
